The Second Coming (Total Eclipse of the Heart)
£55.00
The Second Coming takes its title from William Butler Yeats’ poem of the same name. Written at the end of the First World War, the poem describes how ‘things fall apart’ and ‘anarchy is loosed upon the world’. Using symbols from the poem, alongside iconography from the World Health Organisation, the American dollar bill, ancient Egyptian murals, and Piero Della Francesca’s ‘Nativity’, the artwork is a warning against modern-day conflict and the ‘eclipsing of the heart’ that dullens empathy towards human suffering around the world.
