Shaped like a medieval altarpiece, 'The Second Coming' presents a contemporary vision of Heaven and Hell that reflects current geopolitical instabilities. At the centre of the work, a candy-coated landscape of luxury and leisure floats above a desert battle scene echoing Goya’s 'Disasters of War' and Lucas Cranach’s 'Age of Silver'. The piece is filled with iconography from slot machines, scratch cards and video games – as well as Michelangelo’s 'Last Judgment', TS Eliot’s 'The Wasteland', Voltaire’s 'Candide', and Hieronymous Bosch’s 'The Garden of Earthly Delights'.
